George (5) couldn’t decide which Doctor from the BBC cult TV show to dress as when he went to a Dr Who convention, so created his own costume with the help of mum Louise and her best friend Emma.

He created the Eczema Awareness Doctor, with the costume including orange and purple ribbon, the eczema awareness colours. George, from Tring, also wore jewellery he makes to raise funds for Eczema Outreach Support.

The Eczema Awareness Doctor was a big hit at the conventions in Bedford and Wiltshire, with lots of fans asking about the condition and the sixth Doctor Who actor, Colin Baker, even commented on the creativity of the look.

Louise said: “George couldn’t decide which Dr Who to dress as, so came up with the idea of creating his own Dr Who character that combined his loves of Dr Who with raising awareness of eczema.

“The costume was a big hit and he loved telling people all about it and why he was wearing it and about Eczema Outreach Support. He is a chatty, confident boy and happily told everyone how eczema affects him and that it is not contagious.

“The reaction was really positive, with lots of adults chatting to him about eczema and many saying they had suffered with it as a child.”

George, who has had eczema since he was just a tot, even took photos from the convention into school and told all his classmates about eczema.

He plans to wear the Eczema Awareness Doctor costume at more Dr Who conventions this year.
